Von Riesig Rottweilers’ is located in the rural Maricopa, AZ. Our rottweilers are a part of our family, they enjoy acres to run and play, they enjoy agility and love water. For agility I use my own obstacles at home or when we lived in the city I used the playground equipment at the park. Agility builds a strong, confident, dynamo dog. I train all my dogs in German (mostly) and English. Maggie was originally trained in herding and flock guardian work for rabbits since we do not have a herd like in the past she doesn’t do that work for the time being however we plan on getting farm animals in the future to use in training the dogs with herding, and flock guardian work.
The diet of Colossal Rottweilers:
Since the recall we have stopped feeding Nutro Natural Choice dog food as their main food, we are very dissapointed in the companies that have been affected by the recall in which took the lives of so many animals.
We are now changing their diet, they are now trying out Nature's Recipe as their main food. Nature's Recipe is a holistic dog food that contains no by-products, no fillers, no corn, no wheat, & no artificial preservatives. We mix a dehydrated raw dog food diet from Honest Kitchen and we rotate between Embark, Verve, & Force. They also get fresh meats, veggies, fruit, & goat milk. The main fresh meat they get is chicken leg quarters, ground turkey, & eggs. This is fed along with their daily NuVet Plus & NuJoint Plus supplements.
Supplements & Vitamins: NuVet Plus Vitamins (quite possibly the best supplement around) this supplement is given daily, not only do my dogs & puppies get it my cats do too. It's ingredients are human grade and this supplement combats a multitude of issues that affecct our pets such as allergies, tumors, hot spots, immune system problems & much more. to order a bottle for your dog or cat my order code# is 5032640

The Puppies:
Our Puppies get goat milk every day as soon as they are able to lap up liquids. They are also started on wet Eukanuba Large Breed Puppy which has DHA in it for building brain cells for a smarter more trainable puppy, they are also fed Nutro Natural choice large breed puppy mixed with Nutro Natural Choice large breed puppy lamb & rice formula with DHA. Along with this they also get cooked meals & the same supplements as the adults. We start an introduction to training at 4 weeks of age most puppies will already know come & sit before leaving in some cases they will know more commands than that before leaving. They say puppies can’t start learning commands or even their names until 9 weeks of age but ours are learning commands at 4 weeks old and start to know their names at 3 weeks of age. We also start potty training them for you in the house they learn to go on newspapers and if parvo is not a high concern we’ll introduce them to eliminating outside as well as on the papers. The puppies are raised in our home where they learn not to chew on furniture and learn manners & so they have human interaction all the time. We also do
early neurological stimulation
exercises with the puppies. Unlike most breeders we take our puppies to the vet to get there vaccinations, this way we make sure that they all get a detailed check up. Not only do they get a check up it is also a great way to socialize, they all get to take a ride in the car (close to a 2 hour drive because we will only settle for the best vet around, my two vets Dr. Stuart Sherrell & Dr. Roger Willms from Arrow Animal Hospital), they are in a totally unfamiliar setting, and get handled by at least two people who are strangers to them, then they get to go back home, they always have fun at the vet and this also makes it easier on you and your new puppy when you take your pup to the vet.
The Visitors:
Visitors' shoes are sprayed with a parvo killer & a hand sanitizer is used for their hands before entering the house or touching puppies.

Puppy Progress
Every litter is better than the last. After researching, and continuing my research for methods of better breeding it seems my litters just keep getting better and better. These three litters that were whelped 6/24/05 are much more advanced than the last litters. These pups have been on NuVet Plus & Prevention since before conception & early neurological stimulation done 3-16 days old. These pups are walking before normal (at 10 days old! normally pups are unable to even stand until day 15 and start walking at day 20), they are playing with littermates at 3 weeks old, playing with toys at 4 weeks, learning to come to me when I call them at 3 weeks, they are even eating dry food at 4 weeks, & they are catching onto commands with only a few tries. We move the pups to a seperate box while the dam is whelping the next pup while this was going on the pup we put in the box actually tried to climb out & he was just born! Colossal Rottweilers is now breeding super dogs.
In Regards to Breeding for Size in the Roman Type
Our dogs are kept a comfortable weight for them, they are never overweight. They are athletic, muscular, & cover ground quickly and some are very capable jumpers and climbers. Some of the taller rotts are even faster than the shorter ones leaving them in the dust. Some breeders who breed larger sized rottweilers tend to pay attention only to weight, while substance is very important in a breed it should not be solely concentrated on. In regards to size I look for height first and not so much the weight but that the dog is neither skinny nor obese, but a nice agile/muscular look and that the dog is able to be athletic and quick. Oversized or not these dogs should be able to work not to be lazy couch potatoes, (given that a taller rott would not be as great a cattle herder as a standard rott for the simple fact that they are in range of kicking hooves), while there are very stocky dogs who are very agile like my Sam who is 9 years old and still enjoys a good run around the property in his prime Sam was 165lbs. If we are to breed for weight the producing dogs should show free movement and athleticism. It is important to anyone's breeding program if they are breeding a working breed to breed dogs who show athletic capabilities.
Breeding Goals for the Roman Rottweiler:
My goal is to produce a well-balanced Rottweiler that is great in size yet is a capable worker with great stamina to be able to work all day. One that has great substance but not so much that athleticism is compromised (Not a lazy couch potato that is so heavy it can’t move around) a tall dog with a stocky muscular build. A Rottweiler who bonds closely to his family and who is highly trainable and bright with strong nerves & high drives. And a Rottweiler who resembles the first Rottweilers owned by the Roman Legions both in type and temperament, the first Rottweiler was a tall and massive & rugged dog who withstood the Alps an all around dog who could do a multitude of tasks; protecting, herding, carting, hunting, fighting in battle, and guarding the food supply “the flock”. The Roman Rottweiler is an alert noble dog of great size, endless energy to work all day, powerful, strong & athletic, a very capable worker of many tasks, quick to learn, intelligent, trainable, protective, and is devoted to his family. It seems that there are many breeders trying to breed the working ability out of the rottweiler to make a friendlier family companion. My goal is to breed the Roman Rottweiler in type and temperament to be able to work.
