How To Throw Your Dog A Birthday Party

Dog Parties: 101 Ways to Celebrate with Your Canine Companion
Bring everyone who cares about your family furry friend together to celebrate his/her special day!
What if I don’t know the birth date?
No problem lots of people don’t know when their pets were born. You can celebrate the day your pet became a part of your family, the day you acquired him/her.
Throwing a party for your dog will be tons of fun for your pooch. This will bring your dogs plenty of attention and parties are full of fun, play, and what dogs like most food.
Let’s Get Started
Look at what you have to work with and decide how much you want to spend and how much free time you have to work on it.
Note: when decorating don’t use balloons because if swallowed it can be fatal.
Guests
- The Humans: your family & friends particularly the ones who are dog lovers. Or if you have a lot of dogs or a dog who doesn’t like other dogs plan his/her special day within the family.
- The Canines: The best thing to do is have dogs that your dog is used to and gets along with. Keep in mind the number of dogs you can handle and how well they play with others, do you want the owners to keep them on a leash or roam in your yard. You’ll probably want the owners to keep an eye on their dog. If children will be present make sure all the dogs get along well with kids, do the kids get along with dogs, are they too rough or frightened of k9s, so you may ask partiers not to bring small children for safety reasons. Stock up on cleanup materials and keep them on hand, as well as a doggie first aid kit.
Invitations
A handwritten note to a computer generated card. You can also find dog invitations online.
Where am I going to have the party?
You own Backyard
If you have a small backyard and a handful of guests this may be just the thing for you, or if you’re lucky enough to have acreage the sky’s the limit. This is great if you’re on a tight budget and you are free to do just about anything.
Renting a location
If you can find a place that will allow pets you can try renting a room in a restaurant or hotel, be sure to check with the manager before booking because there may be a restriction on the size of dog.
The Park
The park is a great place to have a party the only thing is the dogs will have to be on leashes unless it is an off-leash park. You may want to contact the park for booking depending on the park and how many guests you have.
Dog Related Places
The following places are worth looking into to see if they will allow you to reserve a room for a party, Doggy Day Cares, Pet Resorts, The Dog Bakery, and Some Pet Stores.
Food

The most important thing is to always have plenty of water available for the pooches. You can give out separate bowls for each guest for water. You can give them out as a take home gift as well. It would be neat to provide bottle water for your guests to fill their dog bowls with. Also bowls for feeding. Like the bowl in the picture it’s a 2 piece set one for water one for food this type will work very well for a doggy party.
Three Dog Bakery Cookbook: Over 50 Recipes for All-Natural Paw-Lickin Treats for Your Dog
You Bake 'em Dog Biscuits (Mini Kit Series)
For the eats you can get your doggie treats from a doggie bakery or a pet store stay away from biscuits that say meat meal or by-products. Most moist treats like jerky types are safe.
Oatmeal and/or peanut butter cookies are doggie favorites: CAUTION DO NOT use raisins in the oatmeal cookies it will kill your dog, never give a dog grapes or raisins.
Muffins with doggie treats in the frosting are also a great treat.

The Dinner:
Some ideas are:
Grilled Hamburgers with cheese melted on them and hotdogs (without the bun)
And/or
Grilled Boneless steaks
The Cake
You can make one or order one. And don’t forget the ice cream pooches love ice cream, stay away from chocolate though.
Decide how you want the meal to be buffet-style, or sit down. I think the buffet style is best if you have the room for it, make one buffet for humans and one for canines. Set your dinner and snack items there. This way too guests can decide how much and what they want their dog eating. Be sure you have plenty of food so the canines don’t go hungry. You can have a potluck too to increase the goodies and save a little out of your pocket. If you have chocolate for the people that it is out of reach to the dogs.
Entertainment and Activities
Don’t forget the pictures! If you’ve got a little extra to spend provide each of your guests with their own one-time-use camera. You could even hire a professional photographer to take portraits of your guests or just take pictures of the whole thing.
A great way to entertain guests is renting a few good movies to have going when your guests feel like relaxing. Also it would be nice to have a few fun party games for your canine guests and their owners to join in. it’s best to have games an hour before or after the dinner to prevent bloat.
Here are some fun party games
Have fun contests:
The best retrieve, Frisbee, the best trick, tug of war games between dogs or humans, the best costume, if you have your own agility course have a fun agility trial, bobbing for apples or hotdogs, find the treat (3 pots with a treat under it, the dog has to find the treat under the right pot), a dancing contest, bite the bubbles with blowing bubbles, chase the flashlight.
Provide toys for free outdoor fun.
Soccer balls, footballs, fun Kong type balls large enough the dog won’t choke on it, Frisbees, an agility course if you have one, a kiddy pool with water, Kong toys filled with cheese, peanut butter, good kibble and/or doggie treats.

Provide plenty of training treats, an idea is to give out a carton of Bil-Jac liver treats to each guest they are very inexpensive and the dogs LOVE them.
Have fun, be safe, and throw an awesome party for that pooch you love!
