Care Before Pregnancy
Your female should be before breeding:
- A healthy weight(fit) not over or under (overweight dogs can have a lot of trouble pushing out puppies)
- Be at least one year old for a small dog or at least 2 years old for larger breeds like the rottweiler
- Be free of hip displasia
- Be Parasite free in and out
- Started on a high quality puppy food like Nutro or Eukanuba right after breeding takes place. This will provide the protein and fat the pups need and calcium for nursing.
- You may or may not choose to give vitamins if you have a good quality dog food you don’t really need it but I usually give vitamins. Just beware of giving too much calcium too much can cause eclampsia.
