Von Riesig’s Foster Home Program

We are starting a foster program similar to the one of Leerburg Kennel for our breeding bitches. It takes many litters for a kennel to produce it’s own bloodline which means breeding many bitches to build and form a bloodline and know what works and what doesn’t. I prefer to keep my breeding bitches in the house with me as house pets and members of our family, so instead of having to keep my bitches as kennel dogs because realistically I can’t keep that many dogs who are all competing for my attention in the house at once with the foster program this allows the other bitches to live in a family environment as well, with plenty of individual attention and the opportunity to live as a house/family dog.

Here’s how the Foster Program works
After we have accepted you for the program by application and personal interview, visited your household, and all paperwork is agreed to and signed you will when available receive an adult breeding bitch or puppy that we have kept back to see if they develop into a bitch that we want in the breeding program, the dog or puppy you get will be at no cost to you and all breeding related expenses will be paid for by us, you only pay for the general care of the dog including non-breeding related vet expenses, good quality food, toys, and overall maintenance of the dog. The dog is yours to keep she will leave you for breeding and go back to you until 5 days before whelping and will stay until the pups are 6-8 weeks of age then she will go back to you. A bitch will be bred about once a year sometimes less. If the bitch is considered not to fit into our breeding program the foster family will get her spayed and the foster program contract will be null & void and you will receive the dog and her registration. We will also want you to bring her by from time to time for evaluation as she grows and also will want photos & stats of her each month.

The bitch will also be leaving you for dog shows/other dog competitions; if you wish to handle the dog in a dog show or competition you can talk to me about it. Dog shows are usually 1 or 2 day events. If the Foster family achieves a Show or Working title with the female, they will be rewarded for each title with a puppy or the sale of a puppy from one of that Female's litters.

Other than leaving you for breeding, whelping, and canine competitions she is all yours. During her stay with us you are more than welcome to visit the dog.

This is not a program for those wanting to be breeders; this is for people who have no desire in breeding and want a top quality dog to make a part of their family and to love & spend quality time with. If you want to be a breeder you should purchase your own breeding dogs and start.

Responsibilities of the foster family:
While the foster family does not pay anything for the dog we do require the following:
The dog must be on NuVet Plus multi Vitamin, and one of the following joint supplements NuJoint or Prevention.

The dog is to be fed a high quality food such as Nature's Recipe, Blue Buffalo, Nutro, The Honest Kitchen, A Raw diet, A Homemade Diet, or combination, etc.. No grocery store brands.

The family must have a dog crate in the house for the dog for housebreaking. And that they keep up on rabies/licensing and vaccinate as needed.

In some cases there will be a $55 Micro-Chip Fee.

We want our dogs continuing their medical needs at our vet. Arrow Animal Hospital off of 51st & Thunderbird in Glendale. I feel that Drs. Stuart Sherrell & Roger Willms are indispensable to our dogs' health. We've been through way too many bad vets, we've found the best and want to stay with the best, because that's what our dogs deserve.

If a foster family is unable to continue with the program the bitch will be returned to us.

Reasons we will not place a dog in a foster home:
You have a male dog in the house that is not neutered
Not everyone in the family thinks this is a good idea
There is not a secure fence
You live more than 60 miles away (there are exceptions)
You have a problem with periodical visits to your household
You are interested in breeding dogs as we are not placing dogs for breeding, you are fostering the dog only.
The dog will be kept outside only.

Reasons the dog will be taken away:
The bitch has been accidentally bred
You have spayed the bitch without our written consent
The dog has gotten out of your fence or is allowed to run loose without supervision
The dog has had to be rescued from animal control
The dog has been neglected or abused in any way
The foster family has moved more than 60 miles away from the kennel
There is any conflict in bringing the bitch to be bred, whelped, assessed, or to compete in dog events.
A failure to let me know about a heat cycle regardless of whether or not I intend on breeding that bitch at that time.
There is any conflict in regards to the paperwork/agreement contract
If you move and do not notify us

If a bitch dies, either from a careless accident or neglect on the part of the Foster Family or the bitch is spayed without written consent from us, the foster family must pay us the current worth of the bitch, which will be stipulated in the contract.

Full ownership remains with me until I no longer wish to use her for the breeding program. At that time the foster family must have her spayed and then full ownership is signed over to the foster family.

Good foster homes are difficult to find and therefore we are very selective on who we accept in the Foster Program, more people will be turned down than accepted.
