German Shepherd (Alstian, Deutscher Schaferhund)

Origin
The German Shepherd’s roots lie in the mountain sheepdog of Germany. The German Shepherd was then modified by the German army in 1880 to work with the military, the breed was to carry medicine and ammunition. Later on the military advanced the German Shepherd’s training to serve as a guard dog for hostages during WWI and WWII, after WWI the German Shepherd’s popularity arose in the United States when the soldiers brought back with them some of these dogs from Germany.

Temperament
This breed Loves to work! And loves to work with people. The German Shepherd is considered one of the best all around dogs for Police Work, he may not be the strongest biter or top tracker but there is no dog that can do all these things together any better than the German Shepherd, and his ability to handle multiple responsibilities make the German Shepherd great for other work such as guide dogs for the blind, Search and Rescue work, and other services. The German Shepherd is a highly intelligent breed who is completely devoted to his master and his family. The German Shepherd is aloof of strangers and makes an excellent protector of the home.
