Scientific Name: Psittacula krameri manillensis
Origin: India
Life span: 25 to 30+ years
Size:16 inches
Temperament: They are easy to teach and tame. They are playful, mischevious, and ornery. If kept single they must have a lot of attention every day. Some are excellent talkers; both of mine do not talk. They are intelligent and require lots of interesting toys and they LOVE to chew. They are mechanically intelligent and will figure out how to open their cage doors and escape.
Diet: a good parrot seed mix without a lot of sunflower seeds. They LOVE fruits and vegetables, as well as a variety of other foods such as meat.
Male or female? Young ringnecks look the same however when mature males develop a black ring around their neck and females do not.
Breeding: They reach sexual maturity at about 18 months of age but is best to not breed until they have reached three years of age. Indoors they usually start breeding in December. Outdoors they usually start breeding in February. However breeding at this time may cause the female to become egg bound so remove the nesting box until April. Ringnecks become aggressive around the breeding season. The hen has 3 to 5 eggs, they incubate for about 23 days, and fledge in 7 weeks.

Lill (who is actually a male notice his ring? when we got him and his brother Phil they were babies and had not developed their ring until later, Oh Well) a Blue Indian Ringneck
