Labor Stages

Stage One of Labor

Her Temperature will drop to around 98 degrees

She will want you near

She will go hide in a den like place

She will refuse to eat

Her eyes will dilate

She won’t be able to get comfortable while laying on her side

She will have a mucus discharge from her vulva

Labor Stage Two (Pre Labor)

She will shiver and pant

She will exhibit nesting behavior (digging)

She will stare at and lick her vulva a lot

She will have mild uterine contractions

Labor Stage Three

You will see hard uterine contractions

She will shiver more than stage 2

Her water will break

She will begin pushing and grunting

And of course you will see the first pup

Some dogs like to nap between pups which is fine nothing to really be concerned about and some pop them out one right after the other they’re the ones that like to keep you on your toes. That’s how Maggie was on her first litter she had all ten in about three hours.
