The Guide to Owning a Quaker Parrot
The Guide to Owning a Quaker Parrot

Scientific Name: Myiopsitta monachus

Origin: Brazil

Life Span:

Size: 12in. 100 grams

Temperament: Quakers are extremely intelligent much like the African Grey. Quakers too understand and respond appropriately to certain situations and they also mimic different noises. Phyllis Baby has been abused and isn’t as stable as most quakers however she does imitate sounds and resopndes to questions with her own way of saying yes which is her little squirrel growl noise. They are also great nest builders. They are chewers so have chew toys for them. They love to take baths. Chicks begin talking at around 8 weeks of age when they are comfortable with their environment. They are mechanically intelligent and will figure out how to open doors and escape out of their cages.

About: the most common color is green although there are other color mutations.

Diet: a good parrot seed mix with minimal sunflower seed, along with fruits and vegetables, meats, and a variety of other foods.

Trainability: easily trained, and make very good talkers.

Male or Female? A blood test will tell you.

Breeding: they reach sexual maturity between a year and 2 years of age. Hens have 4 to 8 eggs, incubate for 23 to 26 days, and fledge at 6 to 8 weeks of age. Their breeding season is between spring and summer.
