Scientific Name: Cacatua alba
Origin: Indonesia
Size: 18 inches
Temperament: They are loving, cuddly, highly intelligent, and very much like a little winged toddler. If tame they are extremely demanding needing constant attention like a dog or a child might need. If you do not have the time or patience to be with these guys I suggest choosing a different species, they can make a great pet or a problem pet so make sure you know what you are getting into before you go out and purchase one of these guys. These are highly intelligent highly social animals.
About: The umbrella is one of the most popular of the cockatoo breeds. In the wild there numbers are declineing due to trapping but they are not yet endangered.
Loudness: Can be very vocal and being a large bird their voices are very loud.
Diet: a good parrot mix with very few sunflower seeds, along with fruits and vegetables and meat as well as a variety of other foods.
Male or Female? Females have a lighter iris usually reddish brown, however the only sure way is by a blood test.
Breeding: They become aggressive during mating season. Breeding season for these guys is in the spring. The hen lays 2 eggs, incubate for 28 days, and fledge after 11 to 14 weeks, umbrellas are usually good parents.
